model citizen

model citizen (2014) was created over the span of four months through an explorative process, probing modes of personal, societal, and political communication. Dancer Paolo Speirn observed at the beginning of the process “I was never taught how to be a citizen. I was taught to be a consumer.” This recognition gave way to movement, monologue and parody experiments to try to embody a discourse on citizenship. This dance portrays the choreography of political communication contrasted with Paolo’s inner struggle, softness, and masculinity.
